6th Grade

Dear Sixth Grade families,

What a wonderful time we had a camp. Despite the rainy weather we all made the best of it. We loved to see kids branch out to make new friends, and work together to problem solve. This was a wonderful bonding experience for our class, and has set the stage for 7th grade. 

Homeroom Updates: 

MAPS Testing: We will be using the next 3 Thursdays for MAPS testing. Students will stay in their homerooms for the first 2 periods on May 2nd, 9th, and 16th to allow for longer testing time and less distractions so they can take their time and do their best. We will start with the reading test, followed by the language usage test, and then the math test. Make ups will take place on Friday May 10th, and 17th if needed.

Curriculum Updates:

Math (Mrs. H): 

Monday: *12.8 Surface Area of Prisms

Tuesday: *12.9 Surface Area of Cylinders

Wednesday: *12.10 Surface Area of Pyramids

Thursday: *Review (Day 1) – formula practice

Friday: *Review  (Day 2) – Test next Tuesday.

Math (Mrs. C): We will begin Chapter 11, Statistical Measures on Monday. Students will learn to find the mean, median, and mode, mean absolute deviation, and outliers. 

Math (Mr. W): 

Hello HRS families. Next week, we will continue chapter 10: Volume and Surface Area

Monday: Mid Chapter Check

Tuesday: 10.4 Surface Area of Triangular Prisms

Wednesday: 10.5 Surface Area of Pyramids 

Thursday: MAPS testing

Friday: Chapter Review

ELA: We will spend next week reviewing for the figurative language test which will take place on Friday, May 3rd. Please be sure students are reading their new book for the next book report each night so they finish reading it by May 28th. Their next book report will be a one pager. Information about this next book report will be in Google classroom soon. 

Social Studies: On Monday and Tuesday we will finish up the Reading Notes for Lesson 30  and we will also review for the test on Thursday. On Wednesday, students will have time in class to begin to memorize and plan the movements for their Wax Museum Speech. The Lesson 30 Test is on Thursday May 2nd. 

Science: Students are learning about the features of major land biomes:Desert, Temperate Deciduous Forest, Tropical Rain Forest, Tundra, and Taiga. They are completing booklets in class describing the features of each biome.

Religion: 6th graders will continue to learn about the early church (Chapter 11) and leaders of the Church. They will examine ways to be good witnesses for Jesus.
